About Kucetekela Foundation
"Kucetekela" translates to "hope" in Bemba, a major Zambian language. Since 2006, this nonprofit has awarded academic scholarships to talented but economically disadvantaged students pursuing secondary education. The foundation identifies scholars through teacher recommendations, interviews, and family financial assessments. Selected students receive five-year scholarships covering grades 8-12, with post-secondary support following completion. Beyond tuition, the organization provides mentorship from local professionals, community service activities, career exploration work experiences, and gap year guidance. Over 80% of alumni have gone on to tertiary education, many outside of Zambia. The organization reports supporting 80 orphans and vulnerable students since inception, with graduates attending universities across five continents.
