Canada-Mathare Education Trust ( CMETrust)

At CMETrust we believe every child should be able to go to school. We also believe that education empowers people to change their communities for the better. Yet most children from Mathare, a slum in Kenya, cannot afford to attend secondary school. This is why we partner with members of the Mathare community to advance education - one student at a time - and to develop a critical mass of empowered youth who can transform their lives, families and community.

About Us

Since 2006, CMETrust has supported more than 306 students in Mathare through secondary school scholarships. This year we awarded scholarships to 119 secondary school students and 82 post-secondary students. We also provide workshops on leadership, learning, and service to our scholars during school holidays and computer training to all of our graduates. Our alumni network is active and growing in Mathare.

We collaborate with members of the Mathare community, especially our scholars and families. We believe in the importance of learning-by-doing, and we are accountable for our work. We see the impact of our work every day in the power of educated young people to change their lives and their communities.
