About African Science Academy
African Science Academy (ASA) is a boarding school serving young African women with outstanding potential. The school's mission is to provide access to high-quality pre-degree education leading to internationally recognized A-Level qualifications, regardless of the students' financial background. The 10-month A-level course (August–June) centers on mathematics and physics, conducted in English, at its campus in Tema, Ghana — opened in August 2016 by the NGO African Gifted Foundation Ghana. ASA values diversity: students attend from across Africa, with representation from Burundi, Cameroon, Eswatini, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania, Togo, Uganda, and Zimbabwe. Students are admitted after senior secondary education to prepare for male-dominated STEM fields including engineering, computer science, and physics at the best universities in Africa and worldwide. To date, 100% of students have received full scholarships on a means-tested basis.
