About African Leadership Academy

African Leadership Academy (ALA) seeks to transform Africa by identifying, developing, and connecting a powerful network of ethical, entrepreneurial young leaders who will work together to achieve lasting peace and shared prosperity.

At the heart of ALA’s work is a two-year residential diploma program in Johannesburg, South Africa. Students from across the continent study Cambridge A-Levels alongside a core curriculum of Entrepreneurial Leadership, African Studies, and Writing & Rhetoric. They put their learning into practice by running student enterprises, leading community initiatives, and sharing daily life with peers from different backgrounds. Since opening in 2008, ALA has welcomed more than 1,800 students from 47 African countries, with 95% of students receiving financial assistance.

ALA’s work extends beyond the school through programs including Anzisha, Africa Career Networks, and African Leaders for Education. Together, these programs support young entrepreneurs, connect young people to career opportunities, and strengthen education across the continent. ALA continues to support its graduates through university and into their careers, helping them build the relationships and experience to lead change in Africa.
